One of Japan's most iconic city marathons and a World Marathon Majors event, held every March through central Tokyo. The flat, fast course makes it a bucket-list race with a notoriously low ballot success rate.

The Tokyo Marathon is organised by the Tokyo Marathon Foundation and held every March in Tokyo. It is a member of the Abbott World Marathon Majors and the only Major in Asia.
The course starts in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building and passes landmarks including Shinjuku, Iidabashi, the Imperial Palace area, Ginza, Asakusa and Nihonbashi, finishing near Tokyo Station and the outer gardens of the Imperial Palace. The route is largely flat with little elevation change, widely regarded as a fast course suited to personal bests, though the dense aid stations and huge field make pacing control and navigating the crowd key challenges after the start.
The route on this page is the Tokyo Marathon course (42.29 km), mapped to existing GPX coordinate data so runners can study the layout and aid station placement before race day.
